View Full Version : What is COP's strategy in this elections?
The opinion polls both scientific and hearsay on the street are of the opinion that the COP is NOT winning any seats. In fact, they have no base and therefore no safe seats. Their claim that they have captured 85% of the UNC base is totally misguided.
So I ask, what is the aim of the COP in this election besides making a statement and splitting votes? What seats do they have in the bag so to speak? How have they appealed to the grassroot support of both UNC and PNM?
My opinion is that their main purpose is to hopefully distroy the UNC and as a result form the opposition because clearly they are not winning government. They prefer to allow the PNM another 5 years than to accomodate with the UNC. Is that what most COP supporters are willing to allow?
so yuh think its ok to put back a corrupt leader in gov't then we are no better off than the pnm

No I don't but it comes down to the lesser of two evils. Besides, how long do you think panday has again?
You have not answered the main questions. How much seats do you project on winning?
Lesser of two evils, then no thank you...i'd rather choose a party and know that i did not put a convict or a dictator to rule my country... i made a choice of getting rid of both of them. As for how many seats the COP winning...well wait until Nov 6, cause you not sure how many unc or pnm winning either..so halo, lets just wait and see.. ;)

who is a convict? If you want to be technical according to the law i can't recall Panday being found guilty of corruption. Not that I'm a panday supporter but by your saying would you also call Mandela a convict?
It's says alot when you are not sure of how much seats the COP is going to win. Where is the convidence in your party? I'm looking forward to this conversation on Nov 6th when we would have a dictator ruling Trinidad. Hopefully the forum does not get closed down. :)

So I ask, what is the aim of the COP in this election besides making a statement and splitting votes? Providing an alternative for ppl who just not satisfied with lesser of 2 evils. That maybe this time around it could be less about misguided loyalty based on what eric did for them or what panday did for them way way back in the day. What seats do they have in the bag so to speak? None probably. How have they appealed to the grassroot support of both UNC and PNM? Can u really appeal to the grass roots for support? And by grassroots I mean the diehards. When ppl vote party regardless of issues or candidates, then its almost impossible to sway them with rationale. U see it all the time on this forum - there's only a handful of threads that have actually sought to analyse the plans/policies put forward by the parties. And how many responded to those threads? But check the threads with the picong and the continuing battle cries of UNC forever, or PNM forever, or even COP forever, regardless of policies, and there are many! If COP manages to stay alive for the next 5 years, maybe by the time 2012, ppl will be more comfortable to a new party and receptive to its ideas.
My opinion is that their main purpose is to hopefully distroy the UNC and as a result form the opposition because clearly they are not winning government. They prefer to allow the PNM another 5 years than to accomodate with the UNC. Is that what most COP supporters are willing to allow? Not this again! Halo, if u really interested in COP supporters answers to this then read the last 50 threads or so on it.
but you have to admit that his dealings while he was in gov't were somewhat questionable. All the COP is doing is trying to make a difference. The question you shld be asking is why more unc supporters not supporting the COP since they are the only party that has no questions looming over their heads. You know most ppl wondering why the COP not joining the UNC but why is the unc not supporting the COP.
Aside from the fact that most of the UNC jus waitin for Bas to move to the great beyond, so that they cld assume leadership...why are most of them still there??!!

Careful yuh burst a vein there nah boy. Convict? Dictator? Like you is Judge, prosecutor and jury all wrapped up in one!
You go vote for Dooks the man who jump on Panday backside although he knew darn well about the London account and the airport fiasco. Yeh Dooks didn't have a problem with any of that. He didn't leave UNC because of any of that.
Dooks is a man who get everything hand to him on a platter by Panday. Chaguanas seat in 1986, Central Bank job in 1995 after he stab Panday in the back when Robbie fire Panday in 1988. Safe seat in St. Augustine in 2001 and leadership of the party which he screwed up.

Hope you wake up from your slumber on Nov 6th to a ripe rosy TnT with no convicts and dictators ruling the land.
I'm not saying that COP is not a good alternative but they are naive to the political climate that exists. The new politics that they are hoping for cannot occur overnight and they cannot HOPE to effect change by gambling on this elections. You must first have politcal power to effect meaningful change.
Just to let you know that I will be voting for Nicole Dyer becuase I know the UNC does not have a prayer in Diego Central and I am giving my vote to someone who would have a better chance to beat the PNM in this seat. But I would have liked to know that my vote resulted in the PNM losing the elections.

The question you shld be asking is why more unc supporters not supporting the COP since they are the only party that has no questions looming over their heads.
They must be not joining because CoP really mostly full of alot of old rejects of every party in Trinidad over the last 30 years. A bunch of has-beens if you get the drift. And they calling that new politics? They have a puppet leader whose string being pulled in the background by Yetming and Bhoe Tiwarie.
One day the truth will be revealed.

but you have to admit that his dealings while he was in gov't were somewhat questionable.
So why didn't Dookeran question it in 2001 when Panday give him safe seat? No it was OK then for Dookeran to ride the back of Panday to get back into politics, even with Panday's so-called questionable dealings. Now he riding the back of CoP supporters to get into power. And you call him a man of integrity?

Well you is the one talking about new politics and convicts and questinable dealings, etc, etc. Them same people in the CoP are from the same nests you condemning. Most of them party to or aware of the so-called questinable deals.

one ah de biggest alledged crooks in the unc government was said to be Ganga singh followedby Saddiq Bakshso if you talking bout corruption and tief and dem kinda tings then you have to include COP.If yuh talking bout dictator den dooks and de cop as well as kamla and unca even some ah de pnm people all saying is manning so ah guess it better to put ah man who was put there in de fust place by a racist president under the guise of morality and intergrity and who already build he palace and done buy/get he jet and have it up de island dan to form an alliance with unca.Remember it was Carty who de say all ah we tief.....but seems to have selective memory in dis place.

Piarco International Airport, the crowning achievement for the UNC and their biggest downfall. Line Minister in charge was Sadiq Baksh now a COP financier and supporter. If they say questionable dealings took place in that massive project then the questionable minister is now a COP.
Desal Plant was said to be questionable. The Line minister was Ganga Singh, now a COP.
There are shades of gray in all political parties. It would seem the lesser of evils are playing out with you also.
COP are vote splitters, nothing more, nothing less.

I think its more a matter of welcoming and looking forward to what the new-comers have to offer - Gillian and the chinee woman, for example. It is my fervent hope that they win their seats. Plus, I have to say, after all is said and done, I have more faith in Dooks than the other contenders.
so that makes the UNC ..what not consisting of members who are also corrupt....oh please... lets talk about Jack, RLM, Bas and all the others... i am not saying that there are no shades in all political parties...everybody knows that... if they don't then they are living in a dream world...
The COP strategy ? to get as many votes as possible and win as many seats as they can. The strategy may succeed, it may fail. but that's the plan.

Or is that more selective memory? Don't change the topic. Fact is anyone been accused of corruption in UNC is guess where now - COP. As I have said before over and over and over again.....the COP is made up of recycled politicians trying to reinvent themselves....yet again!
The UNCA cannot get rid of the corruption stigma until they clean house.

Now they clinging to straws.
I hear Ramlogan say "A vote for Bharath is a vote for the Queen". He really doesn't think before he talk? Even a vote for Gordon Brown is not a vote for the Queen.
And remember Anand is the very man who defended Gipsy in 2000 when the PNM brought up the same charges.
Meighoo and Bharath were born in foreign counties, they did not voluntarily accept allegiance to those countries. It wasn't their choice. They are Trinidadians by dint of their families being Trinidadians and living in Trinidad.
It appears CoP really running out of steam now.

But JP can't you now see Anand being a bit of a phony, when he defended someone on the same charge and now he accusing the same person and others of the same thing?
Two of these people did not voluntary accept allegiance to another country. That is what the law states. The EBC accepted their nominations then it must ve valid. Unless of course he can prove they lied to the EBC.
Instead of dealling with the issues they appear to be reaching a point of desperation.
