Saltfish,
You should be able to get either the seeds or the vegetables at any Mexican or Asian market in your area.

I've been looking but no luck so far. I am thinking about trying up in DC at the West Indian Groceries but scared to do it in case I don't find any.

That looks fishy; I think we need to get Solachica on the case.
Most likely, it is just one man selling the University cocoa secrets. :P
You mean to say you can't get an allocated address for the herbarium? Or use the director email or someting??

Saltfish,
please do not post personal information like that.
That's the use of the private messaging system, and even then, you're on your own.

Ok, I will mail them out shortly. I don't have the seeds of karailee and bodi, but I have a friend who may have some, and I will look him up soon to see if I can get some from him. When I mail them out I will let you know.

Thanks so very much.
Hey Saltfish, I have the "seim" and "bodi" seeds. I will also send you some Trinidad ochro(a) seeds, the ochros that make branches and bear plentifully in six weeks. I am sending you three different kinds of "seim" seeds. Sorry I was not able to get the karailee seeds for you, but I will continue to look around and send them at another time when and if I find them. So I will mail them out to you tomorrow. Good luck with your garden. Seim, bodi and karailee grow very well and bear plentifully in South Florida, but they are pested with a kind of black fungus that require insecticide, so I don't grow them anymore.

Brag,
The seeds came in the mail this morning. THANK YOU VERY KINDLY!
Hey Saltfish, you are welcome. The great pleasure is to watch them grow as you nurture them until they bear fruits and you start to share them with friends and neighbors. Have fun.

Here is a link for you. You can also order a catalog from them www.kitazawaseeds.com (http://www.kitazawaseeds.com) .
Sap, thanks for sharing that link. I ordered the catalog. I checked out to see what Malaba spinach is. It is poi bhagee. I always wanted to grow the red leaf amaranth (red chowrai bhagee). Now I know where too find the seeds.

what's the productive life of a poi bhaji plant brag? If it's possible to run one from early spring to autumn then I in dat. One of the best tasting things ever!

Yes poi bhaji does withstand the climate change from mid spring to mid autumn. Our cousin pots his and take it inside mid autumn and brings it back out mid spring, he lives in zone 7. I plant the seeds and am satisfied with that since I don't have enough place to bring in too many plants.

My former Guyanese landlady use to live in an apartment complex on the 7th floor. She had a nice big sunny window wall. She placed a table up against the window and cultivated peppers, shadow beni, cilantro, thyme, tomatoes, poi bhaji, podina, tulsi, paan and of course she flowers, marigolds in particular. That window always had plants. Do you have a sunny airy window Salt?
MODS / Saltfish..... I think you should rename this thread ' Garden 2009 '
Chowlai for chowrai. They must be Northern Indians who must be originally from China. Anyway it is fascinating for me to go through all these vegetables and see the names and varieties of vegetables on the market. The Thai Basil gives off a nice aroma when the wind blows over it. My sister brought some seeds from India and she has them growing plentifully in her front yard.
