you have expectation IN love or FOR/ABOUT?OF love? :P
Sorry, I just didnt have a comment to discuss but I thought I'd come credit you on saying that your expectations were TOO high rather than the recently ubiquitous TO high  .

Well not for me becos its all so fake.
Its always boy and gurl meet and fall in love and run around some trees or singing in rain. Then they find some obstacle to be in their path of love eg by father and are separated and then in the end they end up together.
Most times it shows this sugar coated form of relationships tht doesn't exists.
Even in KANK with the divorce bit it still ended unreal with them finding each other.
But some movies I do love eh. DDLJ wud be my eternal fav.
I agree, its all fake. I love to watch the movies and enjoy the whole drama associated with the falling in love, but i don't base my expectations on the movies.
They have similar story lines .....but when i was a lot younger i must admit that it felt good thinking that relationships are like that ...then reality steps in and you know differently

i Tink most romantic movies are like that .... maybe indian movies on another plane with the idealism and airy fairy romance stories...
or predictable tradegies ..anyway...atleast indian movies doh show women an men havin sex after the first date...or even kissing for that matter...(lol they rather hide behind trees and tease u with the possibility...but after u've watched 3 indian movies..u know there's no chance)
i mean who wants to watch a movie about real life troubles and hardships...mistakes and blunders...oh wait...dais why dey have lifetime
my bad....
carry on...

Add books to the fray..the Mills and Boons and Harlequins that promise true love forever, and the guy will always havewell developed shoulders and hazel/grey/green/blue eyes and bring u to the heights of passion..orgasm guaranteed every time.
U should hear my friend cuss about that...
Anyway, even though we know its make-believe, I think it really does implant in our minds the possibility of love so true.

ah yes. i remember d fus time ah indian movie had that affect on me. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge wit meh real boy Shahrukh Khan and Kajol. Was in Kaydonna and d movie had just come tnt. I'm usually a skeptic, but some how at that young age, the coordination of the elements of that movie really made me believe that love at its purest can be like that. when i ask friends that do watch, what was there fav indian movie, most say Devdas. But I still say Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. i was on a high for months on months after seeing that movie. had a crush on Kajol for bout 2 years. till i met a girl dat looked like Karishma
dem Mills and Boons books...one time a fren send meh an excerpt, ah get bothered one time :)
"bothered" yuh say  :P
but seriously ppl...love can be like it is in indian movies..maybe not d singing and d snow capped mountains in skimpy clothes, but the emotion...and i think indian movies have a point...notice they all hadda go thru REAL stress b4 dey end up happy? well, yuh have to go thru all the sucky relationships so when yuh get a good one, or THE good one, yuh cud recognize and appreciate it...an no ah soundin real cliche, but daz how it is/was wit me....
Sathya Sai Baba says that Indian movies are made in such a way as to demean Indian women. I don't know if he had a special movie in mind or if he was speaking about Indian movies in general. I never liked Indian movies anyway, mostly because I never can understand them.

please dhal...indian movies does have REAL stress...jus fuh d drama of it...so dat it cud jerk allyuh woman into tears in d end...
is really kinda over-emotional i find...dees longgg dramatic pauses...completely unrealistic sound effects and random bursts into song...
but i guess it still entertaining...an de woman an dem hott ;) d music eh bad...i did like kal ho naa ho....
de men does wear clothes like dey tink miami vice still in style..buh das ok...

99.9% of indian movies are still musicals. This tells us that the main viewing audience is still stuck in the old days and i cant blame the writers/producers/directors for repeatedly cooking up old recipes- because that seems to be successful. Movies without song and dance don't seem to do too well in india.
Some movies do have clever scripts and screenplays like "1943, a love story" which tells the tale appropriately about a couple in that era.
I dont think indian movies have set my expectations in love too high maybe because i know we live in different times and most of those love-story movie plots are still based on life during my parents and grandparents days.
one thing i learned tho, is never to hire an indian mason, because they never build strong brick walls (since people always get thrown through them and they are easily knocked down)
and
indian men are bullet proof  :D
I like indian movies for the entertainment, story line an songs. I would never set my expectations for love based on a movie but dais just me...ah doh like english movies cause ah doh understand it an d cussing ah cyar stand but to each it's own

I asked a few people from india whts it abt the Hindi movies and they said the movies are for entertainment. It helps take people into 3 hrs of romance and song and dance to get them for tht time to not face reality and poverty etc.
i eh see nuttin wrong abt d song an dance...nobody have a prob wit broadway...is d same ting...except d trees an the aforementioned snow capped mountains...

It's just entertainment nothing more.

that can't be what you expect from love...

Sathya Sai Baba is probably referring to his collection of Indian porno movies. I love indian movies mostly for the songs, especially those old indian movies. In real life they ill treat their wives in so many ways, but Sumana is such a romantic to enjoy the storyline.

Indian movie buffs, I have a question.
A friend handed me a DVD and said this was a must-see. The name of it is Lagoon, or Lagaan or something so.
Is it any good? Should I look at it?
Thanks! 8-)
