Where this man does come up with this dotish ideas, eh ?

This is more proof that the PNM does not have the political will to deal with their community leader friends.....

Frightening, deadly days aare ahead for TNT under another PNM 5 year term....

MORE intervention programmes are on the way to help contain crime in Trinidad and Tobago.

At a PNM political meeting in Tunapuna on Friday night, Prime Minister Patrick Manning said that the $1 million the government spent to outfit the new dance band "Divine Echoes" two weeks ago was just one out of many initiatives it will implement to keep youths from turning to a life of crime.

"We want to give youths an option that is noble and one which is acceptable to our society," he said.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...

Programs like these have been proven to reduce crime by giving young people, especially those from at risk neighbourhoods, an outlet for their energies. You dont have to attack everything just for the sake of doing so you know?

Ok, you might have a point, but seems to me that none of the PNM inititives to deal with crime are tough ones aimed at protecting the innocent citizens who are at risk every day from the present mob of ruthless criminals stalking TNT today.

Dancing and Painting programs can't help yuh when bandits break in yuh house in the night and have a gun to yuh head.

say wha, as long they ent breaking in the $150M mansion.

Dance and paint all the way to the polling stations, TNT.....

This is why i keep thinking T&T really needs a dictator!!

Yes Scorpio is right that tough measures are essential .... BUT ..
let the government do anything "drastic" you would hear all kinda people shouting .. "police brutality" ... "high-handed regime" ..." trampling on the rights of the small man" (for the bandits) .. "intrusion of privacy" "human rights violation" .. (when they start to investigate the bank accounts of the untouchables and other _suspected_ big men)

Supposing for a moment .. the Govt decide to declare a state of emergency and impose a curfew as they lock down key crime hotspots in the corridor and in central, you'll hear cries of: "oppresion", "Mugabe tactics"

Trinis generally are quick to bellyache and slow to come together for the common good of the country, slow to come together to form well-thought-out solutions.

it's the same whether we are politicians, newspaper columnists or forum contributors: " complain complain complain" or "i have a solution and it's better than your dotish solution .. listen to me see how smart i am"
as an example perhaps we should listen to the Panday plan: a policeman on every block! like the COP utterings, it sounds good on paper, but how do you really implement that? 1 in every what .. 25 citizens becomess a policeman? Or if yuh talking 24/7 with change of shift even smaller ratios?! .. what about corrupt policemen? what does the COP or UNC plan say about these? Bet you they're silent on the issue because they don't want to alienate the police vote at this time...

If the crime plans of these parties are so great ... why wait untl now to come up unleash them? They could have published the solutions long time now ... and if they are logical and implementable, this would have forced the govt to implement or be embarassed. By failing to do so won't it seem to be more about gaining power than contributing to the society?
How do they know what can work if hey don't have all the hard data and statistics (e.g. classified info about the underworld) that reside within the national security ministry?

and a set of people bawling "time to change time to change" .... CHANGE TO WHAT????

Perkelv, I know what you're saying, is like Trinis don't know what they want. Yes,

COP and UNC crime plans sound almost as absurd as PNM's, but for me, the only difference is that the PNM is in power and on course to win the next election, so it looks like Art, Dance and Blimps to deal with crime for the next 5 years.

Then they taking about how crime is a worldwide phenonenon, so they can't do nothing about it.

I can't accept that, sorry.
