Has anyone read "His Dark Materials" by Philip Pullman? What were your thoughts?
I have heard many raves about this trilogy and I ordered it quite some time ago. However due to my hectic schedule it has not yet been read. With the first of the series (The Golden Compass) due to hit theater screens this Christmas I intend to get down to reading them soon.
I've read that triology years ago. It's being made into a movie "The Golden Compass", out around christmas time. I like the daemon thing, a good idea for alteregos and visual into a person's soul, a best friend for life. The alternative worlds are a good idea too.

I didn't like it.
I didn't care whether any of the characters lived or died. Not a one was endearing.
And I'm not even Christian (you know, anti-God themes).

i keep hearing about the alnti-christian/anti-religious hype about this series. i've gotten at least 3 chain letters in my email warning me not to see the movie.
i am now inclined to read the books for myself, if only i had the time...

I saw the movie. I quite enjoyed it. Interesting concepts and characters. I only wished I had the time to read the books beforehand. They're on my shelf; will be started and finished over the course of this month if all goes well.
