Hi guys, nice to meet you all... I'm new in this board so just wanted to say hi and also use this opportunity to ask you guys about the car I'm buying.

I'm getting a new chevy aveo next week from the recently re-opened chevrolet dealer on wrightson road (now lifestyle motors). But, I admit I'm concerned, if GM files for bankrupcy then what happens to my car's warranty? I'd hope lifestyle would honor it, but up to now I don't really know.

It's nice to meet you all, and I hope you guys are having a nice saturday.

rantsh.

Shouldn't you ask Lifestyle this?

Give them a call, they should still be open for a half hour or so.

Well... according to the girl from there, it's GM USA that's in trouble not GM International, now, that sounds WEIRD to me... don't you think?

rantsh, are you really half Spanish or half Venezuelan? Here in the EU, when we say Spanish, we mean de España - el país que tiene como su líder José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero y que tiene, probablemente, la única reina socialista del mundo.

Anyway, as I said on another thread, GM's European factories in Germany and Belgium are doing well:

GM's European factories in Germany and Belgium are doing well producing Opel cars which are very popular throughout Europe and much of the Third World. However, who wants to buy those big American cars and SUVs that do 12 miles to the gallon?

They don't do Chevys though. We in Europe have to pay over $9.00 per gallon for gas so we don't want them 12 mpg gas guzzlers. GM's European cars do well over 30mpg and, in Germany they have to be able to do much more than 100 mph on the Autobahn - otherwise they will be holding up traffic.

The irony is that Chevy Aveo is built by the former Deawoo corporation in South Korea which was taken over by GM when the company went bankrupt.

I'd imagine other companies will cannabalize GM's assets if it does go bankrupt , buying a few factories, closing down others

they'll still provide services and parts for your Chevy likely , assuming there is a profit to be made from it.

When American Motors Corporation went out of business in 1987 (ironically they were purchased by Chrysler) their customers and cars continued to be serviced. I imagine the same will happen with the current crop of cars should the big three, or even one of the big three go out of business.

Here is a photo of an AMC product the year before they were out of business..... they were on the road for many years after that, some of them even became collector items.

It's nothing new for the car you drive to have parts/engineering from another brand that has an economic interest in it, for instance, if you drive a Kia Sportage, it's the same car as the Hyundai Tuscon. If you drive a Nissan Tiida, it's the same car as the Renault Clio. and so it goes.

No big deal if GM goes out of business and you happen to own a GM.

In addition quite a few of the big three have some of their smaller cars made off shore.

For instance I was once considering purchasing a Chrysler Sebring two door convertible; I was advised by my trusted sales agent who we 've been buying cars from for over 25 years to not buy the two door but rather go with the four door..... Reason? the two door was made by Mitsubishi off shore and therefore if I ever needed to get it repaired later on, I may have to wait longer for parts. I know what he means as we had a bad experience years ago with a Dodge Colt one of my children owned as that too was made in the Orient for Chrysler.

These days car manufacturing is quite the mish-mash, you never know who's really making what unless you do your homework; and in some cases, the same automobile may be marketed under different names.
have a look.... both made by Mazda
