It eh dat bad. It does flood in the first world countries to. And the reason for the flood was because the clouds had plenty rain drops and the wind stop blowing causing the rain drops to fall and it eh have no drain big enough to hole those rain drops.
Daiz the official explanation eh and I standing by it. Guess who said that.

I would say poor engineering also played a part in it.

And yes, we do have floods in 'first world' countries; as a matter of fact back in the 70's there was a major flood (snow run off in the Spring) in my city as a result of the river that runs through it. http://www.grandriver.ca/

Since then we have created miles of flood plain along the river banks (areas where you cannot build as it is designated to be under water at peak periods); we also dredged the river so that there is more debt to contain the excess water at certain seasons, plus we created a series of dams along the river to contain and control excess water; where there is a will there is a way..... to tame mother nature.

I was right there in the flood on Tuesday afternoon. I took off from City Gate about 15 minutes before the rain started. I picked my wife up in Morvant to head to Champ Fleurs. When I hit Morvant junction if yuh see rain and water. The priority bus route by Morvant was like a raging river. Traffic stood stand still by Morvant junction for about 45 minutes until some brave young fire officers came and started to direct traffic.

Bottom line, as a country, we have to stop people from cutting down any piece of land they want to cut down and throw up a shack, hoping that the goverment would "regularize" them on the piece of "stolen" land after X amount of years.

The damn rain did not even fall for more than an hour, and look how the place flood.

But look on the bright side. At least we have plenty tall buildings. Water can't reach up dey.

I just thought I would add a little insight- People have lost their entire household belongings-appliances, food the works. Imagine the cost to a household and multiply that by the many. Then add the ridiculous traffic jams and imagine workers waiting to pour concrete and the pump and the mixer are three hours late, then add the gasoline and human labor costs and then you will see why we will never hear what the cost to the country was. I do not know why we never look at these numbers. I was thinking this morning that it would have been better to call a holiday for two days than waste all that money. We call holidays for football- What the Hell? Why Not?

He had plenty consideration for the people because he was supposed to address them the day of the flood but spared them. He addressed them last nite instead and he tell them to tighten dey belts because the road ahead rell rough. And the rough road eh have nothing to do with the floods eh, is the price of oil he was talking bout.

The other side of this story that no one is looking at is disease (am surprised guyguy didn't raise that point).

With all that 'standing water' and 'muck' this is all fertile ground for breeding diseases.

Those poor people wading around in all of that dirty water, I hope none of them have any 'open cuts' that can be an entry for bacteria. Also, are they going home and showering off to get ride of all those germs they picked up and are now carrying around?

Has the government even considered that, and implemented some sort of national inoculation program to protect people against things like malaria and dengue fever?

And what of the run-off entering the drinking water supply? Has the government considered that this would be one way to spread things like Hepatitis?

What about all of the animal and human waste now washing down the drains and into the food supply, has the government considered this is a national E-coli epidemic waiting to happen?

I have asked my brother to be pro-active and start boiling his drinking water and to see if he can get the necessary inoculations....... doh wait fer no Government tuh move.

Mosquitoes! Mosquitoes and more mosquitoes! Yet they don't know why they can't eradicate the killer 'Dengue fever' from the country. So much floods in places that never seen floods before and places that did ............well is more fuh dem.

Look a next reason for the flood.

Speak up Mr Piggott

Sunday, November 23 2008

THE EDITOR: I hope Mr Piggott, Minister of Agriculture would stand by his convictions and speak out against any move by his colleagues to render any financial assistance to the victims of the recent floods. It stands to reason, that these people are using the farmers’ trick. Building their houses in flood prone areas just to milk the Treasury any time it rains.

....and the remainder of the people in T&T not using mosquito nets, insect repellent, or boiling their water because they just want to contract dengue, malaria, dysentery, hepatitis et al....... just so they could sue the government

It's ignorance Mr. Piggot and Mr. Editor, simply ignorance that you are dealing with.

Lawd fadder, what a country
