How come no one mentioned Manning new band for 1 million? Divine Echoes so how many young people Patrick will get to buy into this new kind of music, Patrick already say these young people like too much jam and wine so he making them civilized now is fox trot, tango, with formal attire for the kids, Patrick going back to the good old English days now :D

manning knows a lot about music and the youth of trinidad.
remember when his first government opened 98.9 fm?
remeber his brilliant idea of playing 'dub' on the steelpan so the youth of t&t will want to play the pan?

the man has musical experience.

Let me ask you all something?

what is wrong with creating an outlet for young people to express their creativity in an environment that traditionally does not appreciate culture?
where people who are artisically inclined have to either
1) eke out a living if they love what they do
2) live abroad where if they receive accloades, we pat ourselves on the back and say "ahhhh boy, born trini" when some article is printed in the newspaper.

we have become so used to stifiling creative thought, and action in every single form that even when attempts are made to try and do something about it, we criticize that too as not important.

the band is a group of qualified musicians, and students of music. in other words people who are either professional musicians or those who aspire to become such. Its not brigands and people on the street who trying a ting...

and the problem with the health care sector is more than lack of money.
it's the bad management at the administrative levels of the hospitals coupled with cartels within the pharmaceutical (rahael's son being the most public one) industry and medical supplies industry.
corruption in health care is not new to this country, nor is it a local problem. do any research on health care corruption and attempts to stop it, and its a worldwide problem.

roads and infrastructure.
yeah daz goverment fault alone too right? (imind you i am not saying the government is not inefficient where this is concerned)
when yuh have private citizens openly violating town and country planning laws doing what the hell they want becuase this "is my place, noboby cyah tell me what to do" you end up with a mess of a built environment akin to what we have. but no, citizens are not to blame for the messy looking place trinidad is. dat is the goverment fault alone....

so instead of just bashing things for the sake of bashing it, why don't you all look at the wider picture. for once!

look at where my taxpaying dollars going...and sadly it will continue for another twenty years.

so i suppose philharmonic symphonies internationally and other internationally state sponsored musical efforts are a bad thing?
besides, the money is only an initial investment in the band.
they will not be dependant on the government for sponsorship forever.

Now now now Nikki,

All my children play music professionally and from Middle School to High School to College none of it was State sponsored. The parents either rented or bought the instruments and they bought the Band uniforms with money from their own pockets. The school bands and orchestras tirelessly and unendingly hold fund raisers as music of that calibra is an elective and is not mandatory.

To my intimate knowledge, there is no professional person/band/orchestra that is State funded in the USA, all monies are derived through fund raisers and private donations.

i guess i can see how vital it is that such an investment be made. forget about the pregnant women sleep on benches and floors, forget how police working conditions are deplorable - we shld see some ah dem toilets!! Oh and those caroni workers who were sent home and now have no job and little to live on... sure why the heck not make an investment in this band and not support our local and lack of funding culture - talk to some of those steelbands... yep Patos i was wrong, you go ahead boi spend it have plenty in the economy and we surely and desperately need that band right now!!!

and let us say in the absence of private sponsorship, because we all know how absolutely generous the local private sector is when it comes to supporting arts and culture
i mean money is just overflowing..we have so many cultured philantrophists just pushing down doors looking to help young professional musicians practice their craft. :|
now where would orchestra's get their funding from

and people please don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that the government should not abandon health care and other aspects of the economy. I'm just putting it out there that temporarily sponsoring a group of musicians is not such a bad idea.

No hun, dat ship sailed when Ramesh sell them wholesale to the PNM...i used to respect and admire Bas, Ramesh and the rest but now they don't really make sense. First RLM was out, then in, then out, then in, like he not sure what morality is. Wel as for Bas he made he feel so ashamed that i voted and supported him, then he landed himself in jail, went on some god foresaken fasting - in similar way to Ghandi, there was just a big difference. Ghandi was no criminal and did not treat ppl like bas. Also you'd never hear him callin anyone the N word.

When i hear the N word, it comes only from the UNC - full of haters
