With all the backlog and all the madness in the judicial system, how is it that they shutting down the courts? And for two months! Maybe dais something the new CJ should look into. I do not see the justification for it.

They may as well go on vacation officially, because most of de damn cases are being lost. They could only sentence senior citizens for three years for praedial larceny. These judges are really being fruitful.

Skl, u HAVE to be an advocate attorney.
Dem is the only ones I know hounding down court vacation.
Dont come with that lame excuse about clerks needing vacation.
How do other organisations function without a vacation period?
Arent their staff entitled to vacation too?
Yet somehow, staff get their vacation without the whole organisation shutting down.

 Nah Snow, like skl say, the court always have vacation. But I just dont see the reason for it. There should be court throughout the year. So many complaints about backlog and matters taking so long to get to trial. So many fears about the safety of witnesses that each passing day could bring a message of death before they actually take the stand. Yet here we are, everyone off to vacation merrily and all things put on hold. I take issue with that.

Whatever happened to justice delayed is justice denied?

And skl, forget school, next ting yuh will tell meh is that hospitals should shut down for two months too! To give all dem nurse dey annual vacation.

Amelia, you seem to think that just becuase Most judges not hearing cases in court during vacation it means they not doing any work, most of them use the vacation period to catch up on judgement writing.

really I understand your point but simply abolishing court vacation not going to accomplish any great gains in processing of court cases.,

its like saying abolishing the Parliamentry vacation going to increase government productivity in TT

what u would need is an expansion of the judiciary plus plus maybe a shift system for judges and enforcement of penalities on lawyers for dragging cases out.

 Interesting choice of analogy. Are u suggesting that courts dont do much during the term either? ;)

I agree with u on the expansion. Dont see how a shift system could work though. And of course, penalities are excellent except its the clients who lose out, not the lawyers. They should start making lawyers pay out of pocket for wasting courts' time and the fault is their own. I maintain though, there should not be a court vacation.
