Central attorney put under wraps
BY SASCHA WILSON
Police arrested a prominent attorney after they allegedly found him intoxicated and with his licensed firearm in the car park of Santa Maria Hotel in Chaguanas, on Friday night.
The attorney, who has his practice in Central Trinidad, was slapped with four charges, including discharging a firearm within 40 yards of a public road, possession of a firearm while intoxicated, and two counts of obscene language.
The 49-year-old attorney of St Joseph spent the night in a Freeport Police Station cell, but was released around 3.30 pm yesterday, after Justice of the Peace Hamid Mohammed granted him $176,000 bail.
It was around 10 pm on Friday that Cpl Bobby Noyan, Cpl Marlon Alexander and PCs Pierre and Matthew responded to a report that a person was firing shots at the hotel commonly known as Dad’s Dan in Bagna Trace, Chase Village.
On their arrival, the police allegedly found the attorney with his firearm staggering
in the car park.
They attempted to speak to him, but they were reportedly cursed. The attorney was arrested and taken to the station, where he again cursed the officers, the report stated.
The charge of possession of a firearm while intoxicated carries a penalty of two years in jail with hard labour, and a $10,000-fine.
