Well, the government surely cannot deal with crime....even saying high crime is an international trend or whatever (some trends are not meant to be followed).

I am all for what our Honourable Opposition Leader suggests. We must start to get some additional help.

"He said 40 businessmen could put up $500,000 each and create a fund of $20 million "and let the criminals know that, should they attack one of you, we shall use that money to hunt them down and bring them to justice".

I am sorry...i just cant support such a call....who is going to decide who is hunted and how???

As usual Bas is braying nonsense....

Yes we agree that tht the Gov't is not really dealing with the crime issue...but please....bringing in bounty hunters!!!!!!!!! steups that is NOT going to help us!!!

So let me see if I get this one straight ..... crimes are being committed, so the formation of an illegal police force or army whatever you choose to call them will come in and solve the problem.

This begs a few questions.....
if in the 'apprehending' of one of their 'subjects', the bounty hunter meets with resistance, what happens?
if he hurts the 'suspect,' is this assult?
if he kills the suspect, is this murder?
after all he is not really defending himself from anything, he is the one who went after the 'suspect' in the first place;
finally, if he happens to have to 'hold his subject' for any length of time, until they get them to the authorities, is that kidnapping?

I fail to see how this 'thugs for hire' will solve anything in T&T. To me, this plan is as misguided as Ramesh's advice to his constituents to 'chop intruders'

By the way, it's funny how after years of crime and violence raviging T&T that Bas will now wake up (how was the nap?) and move to suggest something, be it a assinine one; this the same Bas who told people 'if you loved ones get kidnapped, don't come crying to me'.
Is it because a personal friend has now become a victim?
Welcome to dey real T&T Bas, is only now yuh feeling de sting of what so many other people in T&T have been feeling, and enduring for years?

Now all we have tuh do is tuh get Patos on side, buh dis time with some sensible solution.

I find they should do it. At the every least, when it breaks down into chaos, the government will call a state of emergency and crime will be at a virtual standstill for its duration.

In theory if the efficiencies of the free market were brought to a service that had the powers of the police force , crime would be less of a problem. (something like bounty hunting)

If you could create private police forces with highly skilled and dedicated indivduals , who are trying to make a profit off their services, you will see alot more innovation, much more work being put out , and more risks taken. (that assuming there isn't much corruption)

Eg. imagine if they were being payed a percentage of the value of every stash of drugs they found? Or a bonus for every murderer or rapist apprehended ?

They'd be running criminals out of every hole , the more efficient they are , the more money they make...

But of course , more likely hiring bounty hunters as panday suggest will just turn trinidad into the wild wild west. That's probably an exaggeration , but collateral damage is sure to occur with more guns and muscle being thrown into the fray.

Look, right now there is so much murder and mayhem and for the most part it's criminal against innocent victim (for the most part).

Can you imagine how much worse it will get when it becomes 'Mano y Mano'.

Bounty Hunter my foot, it will be 'last man standing' because Mr. Bounty Hunter knows very well the villans are not going to go willingly.

And what of the Drug Lords and the Misters Big, do you think they will sit by and watch their employees be carted off to jail only to spill their guts.... eh eh, it will be more like, 'let's kill him and blame it on the Bounty Hunter'; ah cud just see it, police killin people, criminals killin people, people killin people, and everybody pointing the finger at someone else; yep let's add another level of players to the fray.
