Saltwater gyul is you who posted the recipe.........sorry ....had a game this evening my mind was on the field.

1 pack vermicelli (small)
1thsp butter
Patch vermicelli in butter until it gets brownish. It will be uneven in colour.
Set aside in bowl to cool
Next Boil 4 cups water to which 1 stick of cinnamon, 5 cloves, 5 cardamons and 1 celiment leave has been added.Bring to boil and add patch sawine (vermicelli).

Cook until tender to the touch .
Add a handfull of raisins. and allow to cool.
In another pot
Bring to gently boil 1 can condensed milk and 1 tin evapourated milk.
Add the hot milk to the cooked sawine.
Taste for sweetness .....I never use sugar in my sawine.....I always add more condensed milk to adjust the sweetness.

Does anyone have the recipes for kurma and curried mango? They are two of my favourite things I haven't eaten in almost 20 years. My children have no idea what they are.

Incidentally, I had found several recipes with equal amount of variations. However I was hoping to hear from a Trinidadian whose family - for generations have perfected the delicacies, to perhaps divulge their family secrets as one has above for sawine.

Down in the west end, Mississauga to be exact. I live well east of Markham.

Food was fantastic, though I don't eat those things too often. Still have some curry chana and goat in the fridge.

Nope, one of the old lady's cousin in Mississauga. She ate it all eventually. Don't eat too much of that stuff anymore. Finished all the sweet stuff though.
