So we're past the halfway mark for unity to happen between the opposition parties. I have a couple questions for you guys. Please no "we go win" and "this is why allyuh go lose" stupidness. Also if you have to state reasons lets not go overboard and try not to bash other people's choices. I know that one hard, even for me :)
- the UNC have 18-20 candidates yet to be announced but if they come to an agreement with the COP then the UNC candidates will prob get shafted for the already announced COP ones. How can you as a candidate run knowing that your party was actually trying to not have you contest your seat but you get to because plan A failed?
- How many supporters who changed alliances would go back to their default party of choice? And for what reasons?
- What would be the conditions, if any, that you would like to see the opposition unite under?
There shouldn't be problems if the candidates understand that it's best for the party/country. Senator positions always await ... and so too does the latest poll indicating the potential benefits of opposition accomodation.

Country before party !
That would be new politics in Trinidad .
Having said that if I am a COP candidate and COP forms an alliance with the Panday led UNC , I would resign .If Panday is not in the picture , I would have no problem with any alliance , after all there are still good people in the UNC .

Well after Inshan Ishmeal show tonight I think all UNITY done, I don't know how the hell the COP feels that this man is helping them, Inshan must of made all the undecided Hindu vote burn the COP card. He lash Panday, he talk about the man wife Oma, he show a clip of abu bakar trying to tie UNC to that one, he show photos of the HCU people at the PNM meeting even though he knows quiet well that the people radio station covered the meeting.
By his nonsense tonight I am sure the radio will be hot in the morning especially the HCU station, COP should of stopped than man long ago or give him some guide line he even went so far to say Manning the Emperor living by Emperor Valley Zoo, he was just downright nasty and if that is what COP is offering well what little chance they may of had at anything just went out the window....thanks Inshan nice job

Make me happy, if COP have dumb people on they platform who you want to blame for that? It was their choice they should of locked his mouth months ago instead they bring another big mouth Anil Roberts. The COP first started off as this party of class then they lined themselves with these two and tonight it hit the gutter.
Like the COP has no dam leader why is it that Dookeran can never reel any of the trouble makers in? For weeks he getting from bad to worse don't tell me Dookeran, Yetming or any of them were not hearing about it, but he put the icing on the cake tonight so much for new politics he get on like a George Street Jamette, with no license for his mouth, that is not my fault my friend so whatever fall out the COP gets after this blame Dookeran because he is the leader of the COP and he should lead.

The Congress of the People (COP) is ignoring the ultimatums for unity issued by the UNC Alliance.
In a statement yesterday, the COP’s campaign manager Gerald Yetming has resolutely stated that they do not respond to ultimatums, “especially when issued from a person and party that cannot be trusted; as such we ignore it.”
The statement quoted Ganga Singh candidate for Caroni East as saying the deadline issued to their party was in fact the UNC Alliance’s own deadline to find candidates to fill their election 2007 slate.
Singh said: “Panday has only 21 candidates to fight the election so HE has only 48 hours to find more candidates to fight the election.”
Singh insisted that Panday could not find representatives to match the “competence, calibre, moral fortitude and sense of loyalty” that he claimed the COP had.
“That is why he is issuing ridiculous deadlines; he is hoping to have a complete political party ready for the general elections and the only way he can do it is if some other party unites with him.”
I guess that's it for the unity talks. It would be interesting if the UNC really didn't have enough qualified candidates to put up as is the rumor going round now.

and Macco's response to this.

Country should always be put before party.... but principle is always an important factor as well

That is the sentiments of many, and not just the candidates.
