And not available in Mor Vino so all those evenings I spent there was for nought (wine wise)

I like Thunderbird & Ripple. The 2008 vintages are just fantastic. Fruity with a hint of mint and a nutty aroma.

Wine is always top of my shopping list...I eh no big drinker but I do enjoy a few glasses now and again. If Im going for a red, its usually - Rioja Reserva. If Im in the mood for white is has to be Pinot Grigio or Chablis.
I always have a Chardonnay available if Im doing rissottos or if Im doing Herb Fish en Papillote.

I can make some good recommendations if anyone is interested....

I love all types of wine. My favourite was once a good Zinfandel;
as far as I'm concerned, California makes the best Zinfandel.
A few years ago my daughter gifted me with a few bottles of Austrialian Shiraz...... yum yum; "bye bye Zinfandel hello Shiraz" .

I'm so glad we can now buy Australian Shiraz in Canada :D

This white wine fish and foul, and red wine red meat has long since gone out the window; that and to chill or not to chill. The only rule now is ..... your taste

By the way White Zinfandel is actually 'pink'; it's a 'white wine .... with a blush'

It's not a matter of going out the window or observing the proper etiquette at all. It's a matter of taste. White wines tend to enhance the flavour of fish and fowl whereas, reds tend to do the same to red meat. And yes, the White Zin does have a pinkish 'blush' but the grape doesn't when harvested.

Not sure how the 'sweetness' of wine is measured, or identified in T&T, but in Ontario wine sweetness is measured using a scale 0 to 5, 0 being the dryest (not sweet) to 5 being the most sweet (something like a Sherry would be a 5).

The two wines I mentioned a Zinfandel or a Shiraz would be about a '2'; these I use as either a desert wine or a dinner wine; on the other hand a Cabernet Sauvignon (which I had tonight :D ) is a '0' so I only drink it at dinner. At one time it was advised that you not drink a very sweet wine with dinner 'as it dulled the tastebuds, and spoiled your appitite', however recently this has changed and people are now drinking sweeter wines with dinner, reason...... they now eat less, when they do that  .

So I had the Zinfandel last night. It was a peachy colour.
My verdict: it tastes like how overipe fruits does smell (not nice) ...until the 4th sip or so, then it was ok. At least it wasnt dry and horrid like the red wine my friend had (the name of which, I cant recall).

Dont think I'll have it again though.

Depends on the red wine, they run the full gambit just like whites. If you like sweeter read wines I'll recommend you try some of the Jewish wines (don't know all of the types) but they tend to be very sweet. Some of the Australian red wines that you get in T&T may be sweet as well. Back in de day  Emu and Gilby wines were readily available in T&T; there was also a nice sweet 'ginger' wine that came from the UK but I don't remember the brand (ah usta teef it from meh mudder safe and giv meh frens  )

Was it a California or Canadian 'grape' Zinfandel, or was it another fruit? they are now experimenting with other fruits as well ?

The reason why I ask is, about three years ago we made a batch of 'strawberry' Zinfandel; it was suggested as a nice Summer Wine. The Owner of the 'Wine Making Service' here asked us to try a batch (we normally do a batch of wine at the beginning of every season)....... never again with Strawberry Zinfandel; we had to suffer through 30 bottles of this syrup ..... yuk, it was horrid.

I love red wines, I prefer ANY red wine over a white. The flavours and aromas u get from a red wine can't be beat. I love a good Merlot, the only white I may chance sipping on is Zinfandel. I'm also a lover of port, sherry and brandy! Ah the good stuff.

The best ice wine in the world :)

Actually, this year was a very good year for the producers of our ice wine; I'll be watching for when this vintage comes out to see how it does in world competition.
