Many companies will slot graphics design as just a portfolio of a different position. There is always need for specific graphic artists of course, but the number of available positions is limited.

You might want to show proficiency in software applications such as Photoshop and Illustrator and that you have a good knowledge of printing methods, color balancing and the like...so you will need to have some qualifications to your name. Much more than that though, you'll want to have a portfolio of high quality art that you have done yourself. It is a creative field, and the thing that will land you the job at the end of the day is proof that you have the creative talent.

As for salary, I don't know numbers but in general fields like these do not pay their worth in T&T. Finding good positions is difficult, and finding one that pays what you deserve is even more difficult. Not trying to put you down but that is the reality of the situation. I know someone personally who studied abroad, came home, freelanced for a while, had a hard time finding a position in a company and is not happy with what he eventually found. Freelancing pays extremely well, but even if you have a reputation, slow seasons can mean little work.

Good luck though, I hope you find something worthwhile. Do let us know how things turn out.
