i don't think it's worth it because it is not permanent.

Dhal you need to do research and discuss this topic with someone who is knowledgeable and trained. What may have worked for Pumpkin may not work for you hun. Yuh skin is the biggest organ and the most obvious so be very very careful of it my dear.
I am thinking of trying it here in London even had a consultation at Harley Medical Clinic...but the treatments before I get it done alone is gonna cost me about £600 in creams and then I have to wait to do the laser skin treatment. That was a turn off for me.
I want to get my doctor to prescribe Vaniqua for me so that I can try it. But I not too bothered as time goes by meh man still loving meh even though I look like a furry coat

Saw tht electrolysis at place I go to is $3/min
I looked into it a while ago when I was wondering if I could permanently get rid of my beard. (I hate the daily shaving) I found the best source of information for that can be found on trans-sexual websites. Is obvious if you think about it.
My conclusions from researching it is that it can be done permanently. However, the process is long, involving many repeated visits, can be painful, and is fairly expensive. I concluded that it wasn't worth it for me, but it can be done.

Laser Hair Removal
In recent years there have been developments that involve the use of laser for the removal of unwanted hair. It is important to note that at this present time these treatments cannot be claimed as having a permanent effect. However it has been claimed that a high percentage of hair is cleared for up to a year as long as repeated treatments are taken at regular intervals.
The advantage over needle epilation is the elimination of the needle; this treatment creates little discomfort to the client. The disadvantages include the risk of changes in the pigmentation of the skin, which seems to occur at times and the fact that lighter coloured hair is not treated as successfully. In addition to this Laser treatments are more expensive than needle epilation, at present only medically qualified personnel are able to use lasers and the equipment is expensive to install. Lasers are used for a multitude of tasks in varying forms, a laser light consists of one wavelength or colour easily absorbed by one material while reflected by another. Laser light when absorbed creates heat; this is ideal for stopping hair growth.
One technique flashes the laser beam onto the skin where it is absorbed by the hair cells that contain the colour (pigment). An alternative method involves waxing of the area first before the laser is applied to the skin and pores. Safe use of the laser is essential for the safety of the client and the operator. Protective eye wear is worn by all present as blindness may be caused. Evidence shows that laser can have a tremendous effect on reducing hair growth, however, evidence also shows skin damage, pigmentation and poor results.
It is generally felt that lasers are a breakthrough for the treatment of unwanted hair. Due to the restraints affecting the use and the costs involved, it will be a long time before they are found in every salon and remember they are not classed as permanent yet!
When enquiring about laser treatments ask to see examples of case histories, the clinic should be happy to display their successes and fill you with confidence. It is important to discuss the cost, frequency, duration of treatments and predicted results as with any other treatment.
If the laser is not classed as permanent yet, what would be the point of changing from epilation?
Laser offers an alternative to needle epilation should the client have an aversion to needles. Laser is able to clear larger areas in one treatment therefore the visits to the clinic are less frequent then needle epilation. However, as already mentioned, it is important to collate all the evidence of the treatment success at the salon/clinic as Laser is quite a new treatment for hair removal.
Why is Laser not successful on lighter coloured hair?
The treatment works by the light being absorbed in the pigment of the hair. In lighter coloured hair the pigment has less depth therefore a higher percentage of light is reflected. It is essential for as much of the light as possible to be absorbed to enable the growing cells of the hair to be destroyed.

The main reason they can't claim for it to be permanent is it depends on the cause of each individuals growth. Which is why when you go for a consultation they will attempt to establish the cause of the growth. It is important that they help you to understand the reason/s of hair growth before you commit to any treatments such as electrolysis or laser so you don't have any false expectations. You should also consult your doctor before going for laser or electrolysis.
Excess hair growth can be either normal or abnormal and may stem from a number of causes:
Systemic:
*If its normal systemic growth (normal hair growth caused by hormones at puberty, pregnancy and menopause) the growth may be problematic once these hormones come into play at that point in life.
*If it is abnormal systemic growth (a hormonal imbalance due to disease, tumor, surgery, medication or emotional stress) growth may be stimulated at any point you have such events in your life.
Congenital:
*Congenital hair growth is an inherited predisposition to excessive hair all over they body. A person can be born with it or it can appear later in life.
Topical
Hair growth can be caused by irritation of the skin caused by friction, resulting in an increased blood supply. The hair follicles receive more nutrients and grow thicker, longer hairs. A plaster cast on a broken arm, for example, can result in increased hair growth when the cast is removed. This soon sheds.
Then there are people who just don't like hair and what is uncomfortable to them may be "normal" to another person. Which is why they should be aware that the growth may return.
TRVC, As for males having laser or electrolysis on the beard, the only way that would possibly be effective(though not guaranteed) if if you were having hormone therapy. As a man its in your genes to have hair on your face, (as well as the other masculine areas) so you would have to be having female hormones to reduce the growth pattern of your hair growth. Trans-gender clients/patients undergo hormonal therapy at the same time before they can successfully start to see a change in growth during treatments such as laser or electrolysis.

umm woman.. I am actually very serious.. lol okay sorry dont meant to snap but honestly... I have what you would call terminal hair growth not just in the normal underarm or pubic region... I have it down my thighs, legs, chin, upper lip AND stomach.. I am not being dramatic or over reacting. Its actually serious and I have done research and it seems to me I'm a genetic Hirsute. It has developed and worsened as I have gotten older and now its beyond any point of control. You try affording to wax as a 21 y/o university student. Its a serious bother and I believe laser is my only recourse because I think I would spend way more money in my life waxing than I would ever spend on laser if it works- shaving is definitely not an option. If anyone realizes my problem, please advise me as to where to go in Trini to sort this thing out... Other than a doctor because its obvious they may refer me to some cosmetic methods. I'm not overweight and it cant be a hormone imbalance because I don't have the symptoms. I'm 4ft 11 and 95 lbs! I'm afraid that as I get older it would worsen to a most embrarassing state, because the older I get the more comes!!

Well if you mean to say that my situation may not be considered generally normal then yes I agree... But I would definitely say I'm in the minority here!
listen...i used to have to wax my eyebrows every week and a half...as well as upper lip, under chin and sideburns...if i shave my legs in the morning, by the evening, all smoothness already gone...i know u think that its ruining your life etc, at a point i did too but self confidence does a hell of a lot 4 u...it did 4 me....i know what it is to afford wax as a university student...ive been doin it since i was 18...
because u are not overweight and have no obvious symptoms does not mean that you dont have a hormonal imbalance...my advice is that u check a gyneacologist...do the blood tests...thats what i had to do...there are pills that they an prescribe to you that are aimed at lessening the hair growth on the body...they work too! then u dont have to wax as often....
btw, are u at UWI? or up north? i can recommend a place that is relatively cheap fr waxing...i do eyebrows, upper lip, chin, and sides for abt $50.00

I thought I'd pop in and see how this thread was coming along. I haven't seen anyone mention that laser hair removal is quite a lot less effective on darker skin tones since it is the differentiation in colour of hair vs colour or surrounding skin that makes this all work. The more melanin in the skin, the less effective the differentiation and consequently the less effective the procedure. Just keep this in mind when you make your decision(s).

Yea I know.. I did alot of research.. I'm fair, red skinned with black hair.. Perfect for laser
O and Dhal, I live in the West and going to school in town. I need PERMANENT, I am having bad effects from waxing so often. Thanks for the upliftment however. I dont hav confidence issues, my boyfriend is cool with me its just for my personal happiness I want to do it. I will save just to be able to do it. In the long run waxing would just continue to rack up big bills not to mention my war with ingrown hair and the scars from it too! I would consider the doctor thing though thats a good idea
