Anyone had this procedure, is thinking about it or know someone who did it?
Where in Trinidad is it done? I think I read somewhere that there is a place in Grand Bazaar but am not sure and can't find a website.
What's average cost?
a friend of mine got hers checked in Grand Baz...they gave her a cost of $15k....but they can't guarantee that you sight can be 100%

Vaio did your friend get it done? Tht price doesn't seem to bad when compared to prices in NY. I've been hearing good things abt the drs in Grand Bazaar.
There isn't a guarantee of perfect sight correction but just wud be good for people who wearing glasses to not have to wear it any more.
insurance was not covering it so she did not have it done....it was too costly for her......but they test you first then give you an estimate on the cost.....

Some of the complications are in the link below. The night vision one will concern me. Good luck!

Um, I'm not sure about T&T, but in the USA Intralase, which is the bladeless Lasik (safest & best out so far) is in the range of about $2000 - $2500 per eye.
As an aside, there are differences in the complication rates between traditional bladed Lasik and Intralase.

I was diagnose with a condition called 'astigmatism' , this condition comes and goes........who knows...........and my Ophthamolgist has advice against lasik, because I do have 20/20 vision.......when it's 'normal'.
Sopadilla, why would you consider Lasik if you ave 20/20 vision? Are you havig intermittent vision problems?
The astigmatism is a irregular shape of the cornea...Lasik can usually fix it...but an astigmatism itself does not come and go, it is a permanent feature.
Do you have high blood pressure? Have they check you for glaucoma? Can you explain what you mean by "comes and goes"?

"comes and goes" it bothers me sometimes... my vision is blurred at times... sometimes for days at a time and especially at night. ... I used prescription glasses under theses conditions. Sometimes I do not need to wear the glasses at all, since everything seems normal. No I do not suffer from hypertension. I do the 'field' study each year since glaucoma is .... I was told..... hereditary.
I don't know your age, but macular degeneration starts in the early 40's and it generally starts that way...or in that you can't focus on something at a specified distance. My hubby's is about 8 to 12 inches in front of his face. Lasik cannot fix this particular issue.
An astigmatism shouldn't be coming and going though.

Oh well! Astigmatism taking the blame eh! When there is a problem you look for a solution.... rite?! Is either you get the help you need or you don't because it cannot fix the problem. So would 'mascular degeneration' mean that the eyes muscles are becoming weaker? What causes this condition and what do they do to help? Your hubby could be my elder brother in age :) ....... I could see far down the road :) and rite up close to the tip of my nose :)........ on a good day. On a not so good day.........I'll see the same thing.......just blurred!
Macular Degeneration Symptoms and Signs
Macular degeneration usually produces a slow, or rarely, sudden painless loss of vision. Early signs of vision loss associated with AMD can include seeing shadowy areas in your central vision or experiencing unusually fuzzy or distorted vision.
Viewing a chart of black lines arranged in a graph pattern (Amsler grid) is one way to tell if you are having these vision problems.
An eyecare practitioner often detects early signs of macular degeneration before symptoms occur. Usually this is accomplished through a retinal examination. When macular degeneration is suspected, a brief test using an Amsler grid that measures your central vision may be performed. If the eyecare practitioner detects some defect in your central vision, such as distortion or blurriness, he or she may order a fluorescein angiography to specifically examine the retinal blood vessels surrounding the macula.
Here is the lik to an Amsler Grid with instructions: http://www.allaboutvision.com/conditions/amsler-grid.htm
This is a good site as well that explains all the risk factors: http://www.agingeye.net/maculardegen/maculardegeninformation.php

Is that $24K TT per eye? Which Laser do they use? The Wavelight Allegretto laser is the latest and greatest.

Saps, I have the same intermittent blurry vision, but only when my blood sugar is high. I went to my Opthalmologist to had my eyes checked out for blurry vision, and he suggested I have an HbA1C done just to rule out the possibility of Diabetes as the cause. My HbA1C [May '08] results showed I was Diabetic so mine is directly related to Diabetes.
Have you had an HbA1C done? I suggest you do.
