falcon - i have a question...
i have a new puppy. got it at 3 weeks. he's almost 6 weeks now.
the vet INSISTS i feed him 'science diet' puppy chow with warm water. no milk.
that's cool. he's been eating that and is quite healthy, sprightly and strong.
but what's the big deal with science diet? is it all that it's cracked-up to be?
i used to feed the other one (9 mths) purina puppy, but now she's on science diet too as it's absurd to buy separate chow for both of them at the moment.
i follow the feeding guide strictly.
i googled and could not find a proper product comparison between science diet and purina. do you have any experience with these products? science diet is fundamentally more expensive. is it just branding and packaging? or is science diet really a superior product?
i have no problem sticking with science diet if it is nutritionally better...
anybody else out there has any info?

i don't understand the insistance but i think it's what's best for your puppy. my puppy cannot eat purina at all her system cannot keep it down. she loves beneful and we've also tried the pedigree. she also loves the pedigree but we don't think it fulls her either that or she likes it so much she tries to play greedy also it has her um stoll very dry. and painful for her. if the science diet works well for your dogs then continue would be my advice. if you wish to try them out with different foods go ahead but be prepared to possibly give away a bag of food.
and dancer boy he also asked for anyone else with info that could help him

I was only being facetious since he specifically mentioned FALCON. 'WHEY' U from CARIACOU, U doh have a sense a humour. lighten up. 'The WHOLE WORLD IS A COMEDY TO THOSE WHO THINK, BUT A TRAGEDY TO THOSE WHO FEEL' (HORACE WALPOLE).

Syl,
I only feed my dogs science diet. large breed puppy (when they are young) then large breed adult.
It is very well balanced, your dogs can't really get fat on it and u don't have to substitute additional meats/ rice etc.
I find it better than Eukanuba and Purina, Alpo etc...the local generic ones are the worst ...they are basically sawdust, your dog gets very little nutrition and most of it comes out the same way it went in...
sometimes your dog might not like the taste of the chow. There are different varieties, lamb and rice, chicken and rice etc...
I always wet the chow a little first now they are grown..but as pups the dry chow helps to strengthen their teeth so you can wet it a lil wit water so its not too dry (but don't give it time to soak)

Oh i fuhget...follwing the feeding guide is good...but it is just a guide...if your dog is magga or chubby adjust accordingly...
don't go by how 'hungry' he look...all pupppies greedy ;)
Also i had fed a dog purina once then switched to science diet...the difference was visible in about 2 weeks...more energy, shinier coat, clear eyes, etc....

Syl...
I took my dog regularly to a groomer to have her nails clipped, since nail clippiong is a tricky venture with Basset Hounds. The groomer noticed the quality (or lack thereof) of her nails and teeth several years ago. I had been feeding her a store brand made by Purina. She recommended a switch to either IAMS or Science Diet, which I did immediately.
The groomer noticed, as well as showed me, the great difference in her nails 3 weeks later! I also noticed her energy levels increase.
Mollie's energy lasted right up until 2 days before her death in November. She had lived well beyond the average lifespan for Basset Hounds.
My groomer is also the owner and groomer to many champion show dogs, and the daughter she trained is now managing a grooming/pet sitting service to the Stars, in Hollywood, so I think her resume speaks for itself.
