hrm, ah following this thred on tsttproblems

http://tsttproblems.com/index.php?showtopic=1876&pid=21645&st=0&#entry21645

from the sounds of it, it's one of those credit-card sized modems that gives you a 'personal' WiFi hotspot. aka, MiFi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MiFi). They mention 4G, so I guess it's using the WiMax network.

(if someone can take a photo of the newspaper ad.. wld be appreciated)

Hmmm...MiFi...

I hope that the units don't overheat...

It would be interesting to see the prices which would be comparatively expensive since it's based on cellular technology.

from what i gather, most of these devices can fall back to a 3G or 2G connection. they'll still work, but it won't be much better than what your cellphone is getting now.

Am thinking how useful it would be to people who don't have internet & wimax can't work for them. But if it depends on cell service then the people I thinking abt don't have good cell service where they live.

Unfortunately,4G service's not available all over TT so look forward to 3G fall back.

The US ent even have 4G yet, at least not wholly. Why not simply upgrade the existing telephony network to 4G one time? It would be a large CAPEX yes, and the government should be pushing for this.

Using bmobile online chat today I got these answers to questions I asked:

kbusby1: Pricing for the device is as follows:

kbusby1: 1 Year Contract - $475.00

kbusby1: 2 Year Contract - $349.00

kbusby1: If you don't have a credit card, when purchasing the device, you would need to pay a security deposit of three times the first month's payment.

kbusby1: Up to 2 MB.

kbusby1: Same areas that you are able to pick up usual phone access would be the same areas you pick up Internet access.

kbusby1: If the phone signal in your area is usually weak, then it is advisable to not purchase the device.

This is per mth price. Unlimited. No activation fee.

More info here.

http://www.mobileleak.net/news/TSTT+introduces+Bmobile+My+Hotspot+Wi-Fi+modem+(Trinidad+and+Tobago)

Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT) has introduced its Bmobile My Hotspot pocket-sized device to bring 4G services to smartphone and tablet PC users.
The device creates a Wi-Fi hotspot in the immediate vicinity of the user and connects their smartphones to the TSTT 4G Wi-Max network.
Customers can use up to five devices simultaneously to access the internet. My Hotspot creates a password protected Wi-Fi access point. The service provides a 2 Mbps connections speeds.
The bmobile My Hotspot package includes a portable Wi-Fi device, password protection, Wi-Fi- to 4G Wi-Max interface, rechargeable battery built in and capacity to serve up to five simultaneous devices for a flat monthly rate ranging from US$54.70 to US$74.45, depending on the selected tariff plan.

3 notes
1# I wonder what the range of the wifi signal from the device is since it does not appear to allow wired connections to a router
2# Pricing and performance seems to fall in line with Blink on the Go Turbo more or less aside from the charging required it may be a better option if you have wifi devices
3# This is much more flexible an option for those eagerly awaiting direct 4g services on devices, however it would still be nice to have a post paid (subscriptionless, pay per use whenever you need it) 4g option, I predict another package/plan soon

I have it.

The WiFi signal range from the deivde to you laptop/ipad/WiFi phone is approx 10 meters.

The pricing is very similar to Blink on the Go turbo.

Only thing is unlike the Blink on the Go turbo that can fall back on the 3G if 4G not available, this IYP device seems to be 4G only working on the WiMax.

Coverage is over 80% of T&T.

I confused. Has BMobile installed a long distance wi-fi? Or is it a 4G signal that a WLAN card can pick up?

it's a 4G signal that gets picked up by the pocket-sized device they make you carry around.

that device, in turn, creates a regular wifi network that you can connect to.

Just curious about what you are basing the 80% range of coverage on? is there anywhere, specifically, that you have not gotten reception?

BW is correct

Yes Sola, I get coverage at home... not the best but just right. The 4G on the Blink on the Go turbo works better by me though.

jamez, according to TSTT when I was signing up there is no coverage where I live, but I told them the Blink on the Go works by me. So I had to sign a waiver. TSTT has a map showing areas with coverage. So far I getting signal everywhere I tried, just some places lil weaker.
