one thing i dont do is buy new tech, normally wait a year for them to sort out all the bugs.

I'd get a tablet if either Android or iOS had good Office apps. That being said, anything one can do on a netbook, one can do on a tablet.

wolfman, even Samsung is questioning their Tab following iPad 2's reveal.


Lee Don-joo, executive vice president of Samsung's mobile division, said that Apple has presented new challenges for the South Korean company with a thinner mobile gadget that is priced the same as its predecessor.

"We will have to improve the parts that are inadequate," Lee told Yonhap News Agency. "Apple made it very thin."


The 7-inch Galaxy Tab was priced at nearly US$900 without a two-year contract from mobile operators, while the price of the iPad 2 starts at $499, with the most expensive model costing $829. Samsung did not announce the pricing details for the 10.1-inch tablet.

"The 10-inch (tablet) was to be priced higher than the 7-inch (tablet) but we will have to think that over," Lee added.

I think the iPad will always be on top, it's the iconic model and thus a brand in itself. Even non-computer savvy people know of the iPad, which person who ent know about computers knows the Galaxy Tab or the Xoom?

I think you are right. I know someone who follows the technology closely and he said that the IPad is way ahead of the competition and Apple will be very competitive with the price.

yea, the iPad being the cheapest out of the bunch is definitely a plus.

Recently got to play around with iPad 2 and Xoom. The iPad 2 just blows it out the water with how fluid everything feels. The only slightly disappointing thing is the front camera doesn't look to pretty in facetime.

I sent my friend some Youtube comparisons of Ipad 2 and Xoom and this was his comment.

Tks for these links, as you know how much interest I have into this !!! I've seen and read so much on this to get sick!


Few general comments:

**** NO weighing factor into the point system ???? (STUPID to start with... no???)

( not in order of priority .... but as it comes to my mind)

1- The guy "insists" at showing what is not present on the iPAD.... but does't do the reverse!

2- When he does the "browser" test, Safari, in most tests is a clear winner and on 2 tests is several secs faster to show the complete page !!! ( still he claims it's a close tie !)( Even though I don't find that important myself!!!)

3- He doesn't make the "similar test" on the voice recognition test even though he has the very same program on both machines. After the iPAD got 100% he did not dare to do the test on the Xoom !!! He then takes another test ???? This one was too rough for me and he lost all credibility right there)

4- The "e-read" test was made using Google Book which is the OS owner... sure enough that the software version on the iPAD will not be as good!!! For example why the "orientation" feature doesn't work on the iPAD version.... ( Especially that in the final test the "orientation" test is crudely embarrassing for the Xoom ????) An honest test would be to take a "PDF" file format to remove biases !!!!

5- The success story of APPLE is due to the creation of its APPS STORE that every single company is trying desperately to reproduce!!!! HE feels that's a "wash" !!!!! GEE! ( 65,000 apps for iPAD vs 60+ for Xoom !!!) Another rough one! ( BTW, since Apple has extended this type of store, to the MAC computers it is another success story too!)

6- Insidiously, he leaves intentionally the screen saver ON that dims the iPAD display to leave a "negative" impression!! Subliminal ? Your call ? But it bothered me during the test . I know because of my iTouch !!! ( users's pref ...) Done purposely ????

7- The quality of the display is visibly better on the iPAD!!! (more in line with other analysts!!!)

8- NO talk abt AIRPLAY !!! FACETIME, lost device locator, 65,000+ of apps, NO VIRUS!

9- NO COMMENTS abt the 30 known and identified virus infected apps over 60++ apps available??????????

10- Go to Google search and type "XOOM + freeze" and see for your self!!! ( The OS is not mature ( it's ok with me) and NOBODY checks and certifies the integrity of the apps over the net)

11- YES, I do agree that not everybody owns an iPHONE but additional millions own an iTouch (iPOD)! ( I can name 10 owners without effort, including PC owner like Jean-Luc) and, for ALL these people, the switch to IPAD is totally TRANSPARENT !!! But it's not even worth half a point !!!

12- YES, the XOOM has better cameras! But 15 millions bought the iPAD1 without them !!! THE crowd has decided that it was not a "major" factor then? Is the "quality" of the cameras worth a point or is it a "wash" ?? Again one's call.

13- The Xoom is a "nice" machine! Motorola is an excellent manufacturer! I would even say superior .... on paper !!!! Buying one NO! For geeks YES! For cpu's illiterates NFW!!!

14- If most of the predicators of the future are right ( !!!) Apple will get 75%+ of the market! This means that several apps will NEVER make it to XOOM, RIM's and Samsung's tablets at 8%+ each!!!!! ( I have in mind some magazines... WHO would dare enter with XOOM for an "exclusive" clause ???? But for Apple any time !!!!

15- Before I forget, just a small example: on the XOOM if you use the magnifying glass, the "wrap around" no longer works !!!! When we talk abt a "polish"(iPAD) product and a good user's experience... that what we mean!!!!

16- I probably can sit here for the rest of the afternoon...


CONCLUSION

XOOM= GEEKS ONLY !!!!!!

well wait a second there. The iPad 2 comes with better battery, better screen, and is smaller, thinner and lighter than the others. It doesn't have as much RAM or raw processing speed as the Xoom, but in terms of the technology that matters to the average consumer, the iPad 2 is still way ahead.

The Xoom and Tab scream "first generation product" to me.

What's more important on a portable device: from my iTouch experience: how long last the batteries before a recharge is needed!!! This is the FIRST "con" of my iTouch! The second con: the display size! But I knew this beforehand! THIS is the MAIN two reasons we'll be getting an IPAD2!


From what I got from the net... the battery on a XOOM lasts anything between 2-6 hrs ( !!!) vs a proven a year old 10 hrs for the iPad!!! (Apple has its own battery plant in Japan! GOOD, but doesn't grant any point or fraction of)






Here's another "view" of the very same device: ( the second link is part of the first link under " it smokes the Motorola Xoom ") and is an extended lab test of the cpu speed comparison between the iPAD, IPAD2 and the XOOM!!!) ... and much more credible than the other "Youtube folk" !! Mind you, SPEED is not a "factor" between XOOM and IPADs as they all perform basically very well under all conditions!!! ( RIM and Samsung too)

In terms of raw specs, all the tablets are virtually equal. Some even are Flash-capable, whilst both the iPads 1 and 2 are not. The iPad has the brand image, so this is a detriment to Samsung, RIM and Motorola.

Someone said earlier that "Apple is NOT competitive with technology"...and that it was basically selling products, more because of marketing than anything else...
maybe that's why every other company is copying everything Apple builds as fast as they can?...that marketing must really work...
Maybe that's why they lost the MP3 player market?...and the digital music download market...
Maybe that's why they turned the Phone market upside down with their first phone?...
Maybe that's why they have probably sold more Tablets in the first year of sale than all the other manufacturers in the previous 10 years?...
Bear in mind that Apple is the only one of these companies that can build the whole Widget...and have been doing that since the day it was created...
How many Computer companies have come and gone since Apple was founded?...
and which of these companies is valued worth the most at the moment?...
When I say the whole Widget, I mean...hardware, software, design, shop shelf, out of the box and plug into content as soon as booted up...
and that's without mentioning boring stuff like custom chip, fabrication techniques, bulk purchasing power....etc...

I think that there must be a reality distortion field at work here somewhere...the question is, who's living in it?

Are you talking about the first generation Galaxy tab that was about 1/4" thicker than the 1st generation iPad that Samsung themselves stated was too thick to compete with the iPad?...or the 2nd generation Tab that they said was coming later this year, that they showed a mock up of, that was actually about 1/4" thicker than the iPad 2 on closer inspection?...
