He is doing what he should have done years ago which is to admit that the crime situation is out of control, and bigger than some people choose to admit.
I suppose he now realizes that his strategy of..... 'if you ignore it, it will go away' is not working.

I realize Martin must now be embarrassing the hell out of some Trinis who have so far seen crime as a matter of course in T&T (yuh know de ones.... it have crime everywhere), and that someone else will take care of it; by making this declaration I hope to God that as a country everyone sees the importance of working together (no one can do it alone, and crime is everyone's business), and are committed to a unified effort to dealing with the situation, I also hope that this is the end to some people playing politics with other people's lives and safety.

The time for finger pointing is over, it is not just Martin's country, or the PNM's for that matter, it is everyone's country and everyone stands to suffer or benefit; it is time to work together.
