There is much talk about the traffic congestion in T&T. HERE ARE A few suggestions. 1)DECENTRALIZE ALL GOV'T OFFICES: Some offices should be located in TUNUPUNA, COUVA, ARIMA, CUNUPIA, ETC. This will alleviate all that rush our traffic entering and leaving PORT-OF-SPAIN. 2) STAGGER WORKING HOURS: Some offices start work at 07: 00 a.m to 15.00, others start at 09.00 a.m to 17 :00. 3) INSTITUTE A COMPRESSED WORK-WEEK,(three-day, or four-day ) particularly at institutions as the hospital, prisons, police, etc. Some empolyees could work three days a week,e.g monday, tuesday, and wednesday from 07:00 to 19:00, others could work thursday, friday, saturday, from 07:00 to 19:00. Lots of gov't offices could open all day on saturday, which will make it easier for folks working monday to friday. This three-day work-week can be rotated, so that those persons working monday to wednesday, could switch with those persons working thursday, friday and saturday, after three or six months, so no one person works every friday and saturday indefinitely. The four-day work-week will follow a similar pattern. I THINK IF THE ABOVE SUGGESTIONS ARE INSTITUTED THEY WILL GO A LONG WAY TO ALLEVIATE THE TRAFFIC PROBLEM. PLEEZE DISCUSS, WITHOUT THE PARTISAN POLITICS. DANCERBOY
Good work danceboy.

They should decentralize some of them to the internets as well. Alot of things can be done remotely; there would be less reason for persons to leave their home or offices in the first place.

You need full computerisation of records to have an efficient system where relating offices are far apart. You also need a workforce who are ready to be efficient from 8 to 5. You can decentralise all you want, if you dont change those two things as well, the system is doomed.
I dont like the compressed work-week idea but I think the staggered hours could help. Not too staggered though; it's unfair to some.
Good thread.

I agree with this here and infact I did make mention of this same point to some people a long time ago, but I want to ask you....are trinis ready to take the next step by working at home for at least 1 day for the week. I think if you give trinis this opportunity now, they might abuse it.....even if you give this privilege to senior workers....what you think?
By allowing people to work at home one day a week, you actually save time, gas, money and stress on your car. Of course, it might easy up the congestion a little bit.

I agree with Falcon. Some ministries like the Min of Ed are most inefficient. It would be wonderful if there could be an office down Sando so South ppl like me wouldn't have to go quite up POS, take days off from work to find out what going on with my salary...and could you imagine there are letters of appointment for permanent employment that sat on a person's desk @ Min of Ed for 2 years and never found its way to Service Commission? In my opinion, in some ministries, there will never be a dedicated work force who actually serve the country. They reach to work for 9 am, give you attitude on d phone (if u actually get thru) when dey can't find your file, dey leave work at 3 pm, dey are MIA/on vacation for God knows how long, dey don't work from Xmas till New years.
Traffic in Gasparillo is the worst though, I never pass that way to or from work anymore. Thank God for that bypass road to the highway through Reform. If I'm going North, hard luck, I hadda pass thru Gasparillo anyway. If you know your way around San Fernando, there are many ways to get in and out and avoid traffic. That's jus one problem: in many areas, there is jus one route to get in and out, no alternatives.

THANKS FALCON. But, are you admitting, or implying that the workforce in TRINIDAD is inefficient ? As far computerisation of records, 'MONEY IS NO PROBLEM'. DANCERBOY
