I dont remember us ever having a special Christmas eve dinner. To me Christmas Eve was always a mad last minute dash to finish "putting away" the house for Christmas.

Oh wow...geez it seems like my family then is the only one with the tradition of a Christmas Eve dinner?? Oops. Back home, we also celebrate during Christmas Eve and Christmas day is just leftovers for lunch, but we usually have a Christmas breakfast (pancakes, bacon, etc).

Is this common for Trinis? (not to celebrate on Christmas Eve?) because I know at least 3 people who does it as well. I am just curious.

Anyhow...what are you all cooking for CHRISTMAS day then? lol

I think the Christmas eve celebration is quickly catching on locally. But some years ago all focus was on Christmas day itself.

Chica I guess every family has a different holdiay tradition ....depending on your roots.

for mine it has always been.....

Christmas Eve .....lots of finger food (hot and cold) everything from a variety of Hot Hors d’Oeuvres ....to cold meats cheeses and veg tray....lots of poncha cream, sorrell and peardreax lol

On Christmas it's.....

Mid-day brunch (brunch because, have to wait until the little ones open their gifts from Santa then get over to Nana's house)

...that's when we blend the old with the new..... Pastels, Ham and Omlets, with several baked goods (cinnamon buns, croissants. french toast)....champaign and orange juice, tea, flavoured coffee (for the adults) and hot chocolate w/ mashmellows for the kids
.... for desert a 'Tropical fruit compote' ....fancy name for a tropical fruit salade tossed in cole slaw dressing and topped with whipped cream... (Nana goes all out and everyone gets their fav. included in this brunch lol)

Christmas Dinner....traditional stuff.... turkey, stuffing, calaloo, macaroni pie, couple different vegs (this year ...garlic green beans with red peppers...and little baked Parissean potatoes) oh, and corn as two of the little don't like the way I do the green beans.... "Too spicy Nana" lol

Desert...black cake, poncha cream, sorrel.... and cookies that I made with the little ones.

So what are all of my guests (adults) doing today???? Trying to loose about 15 pounds. lol

Me....I'm taking it easy now. lol

As is normal w my family, the christmas eve dinner got sidelined and the imprumtu dinner was dhalpurie and curry duck, chicken; cowheal soup, ham, coconut cake, fruit cake and sorrel.
For us Christmas eve is a time to put finishing touches to the house and the christmas day menu while celebrating the arrival of family members. When in Tdad, a formal dinner is planned by one of my sisters and we must all gather at her house to eat, drink and be merry.
Christmas day is the big day w friends and family and a lavish menu always combined w curry and a formal non curry menu.
This year was:
Turkey and cranberry sauce
vegetables
rice dish
pasta dish
salad
dhalpurie
curry duck
curry chicken
channa and alloo
cake and sorrel
My sis did make ginger beer but we still hv not seen it.
