okay I think I am ready. I have an advanced point and shoot but I am ready to play with the big boys and get a real camera. I took a class in digital photography and am ready to give it a go. Anybody have a SLR camera they would recommed. Something for a serious amateur, I won't be making money of it so nothing to dent my pocket too hard. :ugeek:I heard Nikon is supposed to be a good brand. :?

Most of the Photographers that I know who changed from film to digital uses NIKON, D40, D70, D80,
some other uses the Canon EOS.
If your are going to do your own editing it is better to shoot in RAW format that way it is like having negative film, but if you are printing off you digital media, TIFF or Jpeg is the least expensive way to go.

We're going on holiday soon, and I thought I'd like to get a dSLR, in addition to our compact digi cam.
Im looking at the Canon EOS 400D Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens, Sony DSLR-A200 Digital SLR Camera with 18-70mm Lens and the Nikon D60 Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm lens.
Im looking at reviews, but was wondering if anyone here had any experiences with these cameras. Im more hesitant over the sony as we already own the cybershot and its indoor photo quality is poor.
Any advice is most welcome.

Well, I dont have any experience with any of the above, but given the choices
1. Alpha if you dont intend to spend too much on lenses in the future
2. Nikon D60 if you intend to explore further in photography, in the future
n pls bring along ur usual camera to capture more pics in ur holiday
haf fun

Thanks for the advice but I ended up reading a few reviews and I got the Canon 400D instead.
I always take a spare disposable camera when I go on holiday.. I had an accident years ago with I had an APS camera, quite a small one and I had it in my top pocket. I was on a boat and I leant over to get something and it fell to the bottom of the loch....
So I always buy a disposable camera to take with me, not that it will ever happen again, but in the event of my main camera does not work..
But anyway my 400D is awesome.
