we did this last elections...
can i ask...you want expats to vote?
cuz they might hit "not voting"
^^I guess I should have rephrased that. By "Not voting", I should really have written "none of the above", "none" or "I support no party".
I'm just looking for support numbers. What happens on election day, and whether you will take time to vote or not, is irrelevant.

I picked COP for no particular reason. I could have easily chosen UNCA. I just want to see the greedy Mannings thrown out on their fat arses from the PM's residence that they believe is their home for life. Any party but the PNM will please me immensely. The time is ripe for a change for the better.

I choose COP because we have tried both other parties before with very little if any positive changes to TnT, the Cop has some of the best political minds and once they have no infighting (which I don't see happening), they will form a very popular govt.

I am one of the 2 who chose none of the above but I'm really going to vote. If this forum is anything to go by, the COP is alright ;)

I remember when this forum used to be pro UNC (Myself included )
Maybe this poll is meaningless and does not reflect the electorate.
What this poll does show however is that whichever way anyone try to spin it , in the end it boils down to the UNC is in decline .

I think your poll will swing now that the UNC Rally was so dynamic. Great organisation and great crowds will bring back many who were toying with the idea of moving with COP

Not really.... crowds don't win election and further....ppl shld think before they act...

Actually, I agree with maria. Ppl who were in two minds about supporting the UNC would feel heartened knowing that they were able to pull such a large crowd. Clearly the beloved party may not be as dead or dying as many speculated. And so their support is renewed. Its just the opposite to the despair other party supporters felt upon seeing that despite everything, the UNC maintain such a strong following. They may even begin to wonder realistically what are their own chances of winning. Its a psychology thing.

Unless you are a follower, you follow your mind and not the current trend .
If a crowd would help me make up my mind to vote , then I do not have a mind of my own .

Well people like a 'winner' so some weaker minds might have been swayed by the crowd size instead of of the real issues. Panday and Jack still have plenty time to mess things up.
Their own former chairman came out to explain how the stage was set to make the crowd look larger than it actually was. I supposed he would know a bit about Panday's playbook.
I think your poll will swing now that the UNC Rally was so dynamic. Great organisation and great crowds will bring back many who were toying with the idea of moving with COP
You know, there is a feature where I can make the poll available with re-voting (so users can change their vote, if they so wish). I guess that would be more suitable given a fluid situation.
I can always turn on that option, but I fear it might scare and confuse many of the forumites.

Since TTOL hasn't had a stampeed of new votes to the poll it would appear that everyone who would have, did prior to the UNC rally. I suggest you start a new one, then compare the results to the pre rally results. That would be interesting.

According to Maccogirl this cannot be correct. How could the COP have 67% of the vote on what is supposed to be a forum open to a representative sample of Trinidadians with Internet Access . Obviously this newsgroup has been infiltrated or is run by COP supporters who have rigged the entire thing
It cannot possibly be that 67% of the people on this group support COP. Why are you all against BAS? He is a good man. It is all Oma's fault, he was a helpless bystander.

It is well known that COP has managed to attract significant following amongst the "educated middle class", who are more likely to vote on issues and less on race than lesser educated voters. The "natural consituencies" of the traditional race based parties are under-represented online, since the "lower classes" have less internet access than the "middle classes". It is therefore not surprising that the PNM and UNC scores would be underestimated and the COP overestimated in this online poll.

so true.
and don't forget trini goes by constituencies... so 50 people from Port of Spain saying they will vote COP, could possibly indicate that support for COP in POS is high.
Doesn't mean that 35% of people in Chaguanas or Tobago are voting COP.
we could argue that the forum has a good spread of people from all over Trini, but I am sure it favours town and the corridor.

It would be so silly to have any poll about the party of preference when we can basically predict who will be voting for whom if they vote.

According to Anand Beharrylal of the UK (see letters to the editor, Trinidad Guardian, Sunday, Octobner 20, 2007), The only way for any party to beat the PNM is to have an alliance--UNC/COP.
If Panday and Dookeran don't listen to good advice, then we can safely blame both of them for the beginning of Patrick Manning's Executive Presidency (dictatorship).
People are ready to vote and they are looking for winners, if these two parties continue to bicker and throw words at each other then they are showing the worst kind of selfish political ambition there is.

COP will wait for a long time if they can't do simple math.
Unless things have changed 50% of the population might vote PNM, 25% for UNC and 25% might vote for COP. Their dogs dead already.
It would be so silly to have any poll about the party of preference when we can basically predict who will be voting for whom if they vote.
I still don't get the "why" of that. What kind of conclusions could you draw?
You can't make predictions on the election results, for the reasons stated earlier (inherently biased sample, constituency divisions, small sample size etc). You wouldn't get a good judge of forum-support either (since not all members could participate). So... what's would be the goal?

But of course, everything free and whatever isn't given free is made free by stealing it from somebody who have it, technically that is free since u spent no money to get it.
while i myself am enjoying some of that freeness as i am a student getting Gate funding, Im sure with $200 billion to spend in 5 yrs, any govt which just happens to be in power at the time could have done that.. if u voting on freeness alone u could easily vote COP or UNC because I think both of them offering free laptops for every student
btw, how much people voted in this poll in the last week or two, I heard some COP supporters were swinging to the UNC

Please be proud of what you received and be thankful for it, my dear friend, but don't believe for a moment that you were given something as a favor. We expect all politicians to hold offoce as a trust of all the people not just the electorate who voted for them. All who enjoy political office are elected to serve all and love all in the nation. You got what you now have as a matter of right and a duty by others to advocate for the best for the greatest numbers, not just for you alone.
What you believe you got from politicians came as their duty, not their favor to you. They were elected to serve all with the love of the nation foremost in their minds. Please don't barter small favors you feel you received in exchange for mass corruption that is felt in the nation and hinders the full growth of the nation.
Mods, feel free to unsticky this. It's a pre-election snapshot, and the polls have been closed since the 4th. There's not much point in keeping it around (other than as a reference.)
Thank you all for participating though! :)
I suggest we start a new poll, with the "re-voting" feature enabled. That would give us a better idea of forum support at any given moment. Re-voting would make it more dynamic, since voters would be free to switch their votes along the course of time.
