Why are we paying $200....for a typewritten piece of paper and instant photograph and the typewritten thing photographed with the pic and then laminated....

I remember when I was in Canada and I showed this guy our DP and he was like "why does it look so ghetto?"

Why have we not advanced as yet wrt to this :| :| :| :|

I was wondering this the other day.
Why can't they do something like our ID. The canadians have a nice dp.
We really do look poor and underclass where our dp is concerned.

I think it's printed via a computer now, so not really "typewritten" anymore. The whole thing (lamination, photo, etc) takes less than a minute to do, so I'm not really complaining about that. Looks ghetto, yes, but unless the alternative solution is quicker, I don't think we need to change.

The rest of licensing office though..

They started doing it by computer this year or late last year? Becos I had mine renewed last year and it was typewritten.
And in the pic they do like 3 or 4 pics per strip so I had to wait a while for another person to come and then after no1 else was coming the man decided to give the pic to start the card process when I started complaining.

duplicates and renewals too =\

pretty sure it was computer-written. They had a nice flatscreen in the photo-taking room, and I didn't see a typewriter. The type-font on the generated permit looked different too.

of course, you never know :?

Dem officers does be looking for thing. They goh try and frustrate you unless you pull out some blue.

I had to get an early renewal (I travel alot, so it's doubtful I would be in T&T when the 1 month-prior window comes up), but the officer was a real jerk about it. First, ah gone and they tell me they need to see meh ticket. Fine, I go home and get that. Then they tell me they want to see meh passport too(!?!). Fine, ah get that and come back, but now it have line to see him now. All that for a dotish little early renewal? bah.

By that time, is almost 3pm and he had to process me (because they close up at 3  ). The photo/lamination part does go pretty quickly though; I'd estimate about 50 people were done in under an hour.

I always thought the $200 was for the right to drive legally.

Sumana
12-20-2007, 11:14 AM
Na, you get that right when you legally do ur regs
This is just for a piece of laminated glossy paper

I hate when people say that. It's shrugging responsibility away from the individual, not to mention ignoring the many other institutions that are functioning well in our country.
