I too use to think so...........then I started to wonder how long it takes a tree to grow, why did I pick the tree with a birds nest attached on to it etc. I remedied this thought.....I planted a fence of Arborvitae (adaptive to my climate) as well as a Norway Spruce in a huge pot and that's my live Christmas trees........now I don't cut down, buy cut down and I can't stand the store bought.

but these live Christmas trees aren't raided from coniferous forests, they are deliberately farmed.

The greenery that needles represent is replaced by the next year's plantings. The use of the natural item then it's recycling precludes the need for moulded non-recyclable plastic trees.

When growing up we always had a live pine tree.
Then we stopped having a tree for a couple of years . Last year bro bought an artificial one so we have tht up now.

Plastic for me. Lights built-in and it folds up like an umbrella. Just say "presto" and all that is needed are the gifts.

I have mixed feelings about using a tree from the "lot" or one you found in the forest. I don't like killing a tree for essentially cosmetic purposes. Some people really like the smell of the 'real deal' and hate the fake trees. If you assure it's headed for the mulcher, you are at least doing your part. Don't put anything toxic on your tree, like that 'fake snow' - it cannot be recycled with that stuff all over it. Take everything off the tree and bring it down to the chipper/recycler personally, or chop it up and put it in the compost pile.........if you must have a live tree that is.

we used to have a very very very tall christmas tree in our front yard, it was older than me. When they cut it down in '89 i remember de sad feelin. :( i remember it made de yard very messy tho.
For a while it was also kinda hard to tell de taxis where to drop meh (used to just say by de tall xmas tree).

Plastic. Real = dropping needles, watering, dust from outside, work in going to get it + I too cheap to dish out $40/yr.
