If you are a [h]ardcore gamer, get the Xbox360. It has the best game library of the three, plus good graphics. Halo3, Assassin's Creed, Bioshock, Forza2, Gears of War, HL2: Orange Box, Mass Effect and Call of Duty 4 are the hot titles this season.

If you are a movie watcher with a Hi-Def TV, get a PS3. The PS3s game library is comparatively weak, but it does function extremely well as a Blu-ray disc player, and has fantastic DVD upconverting playback (very much superior to the 360's). If you've got the equipment, the PS3 as a blu-ray player will absolutely outclass anything you can get at MovieTowne, or anything else available locally for that matter. It's also way quieter and much more reliable than the 360. Hot games this season are: Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty 4, Burnout Paradise, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Ratchet and Clank Future, Heavenly Sword, HL2: Orange Box and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Note also the price has come down since launch, with the 40GB model (no backwards compatibility) at $399.

The Wii is brings good, classic Nintendo fun. If you aren't [h]ardcore, then I recommend getting the Wii (or a Nintendo DS). The games available on there aren't graphically impressive, nor are they up to the production values of the other consoles. Yet, they are still fun diversions, with the occasional game-of-the-year thrown in (thinking of you, Super Mario Galaxy!).

Wii is the best for Kids because they just don't sit and play, they get real work out doing it. plus there are more educational game than violence.

i remember the days of my atari, NES and SNES, playing asteroids, mario and streetfighter. :)
i thought i had outgrown gaming systems, but over the past few years i've been playing agan.
I only play on my pc and i loved rpg's and strategy games like Star Wars KOTOR and Age of Empires. I've been told that God of War was a great game, since it didnt came out on pc i missed out.

These days i dont have much time for games, but i would like to get a Wii.

My kid said that there is not much software developers for the PS3 as the others because it is much more difficult to create programs for it. He said you should try out the Xbox and Wii before making a decision. The Box is more serious and the other is just plain ole fun.

Wii, the other two are extremely expensive and have media formats that are yet to be mainstream.

There's already a mod for the wii and you can always download & burn games....

Price here is: 279.99 (Canadian). Games range from $25.00 to $40.00...

I think I hear my bro say tht the newer ps3 can only play ps3 games as opposed to the first set of ps3 tht play all the other ps games.
He had one of the first hundred made and last year had a fan problem where they said something was dry. It was still under waranty and called them up. They sent a prepaid box etc for it. I remember he especially asked them for the older model ps3.

Jenny my bro has lotsa games.I seen him playing but I am not into games so can't recall names. But some of those games go on and on and have nice stories. Most recent one I see him playing is one with a treasure search by one of francis drake decendant and a reporter gurl. Can't recall name.

I think I hear my bro say tht the newer ps3 can only play ps3 games as opposed to the first set of ps3 tht play all the other ps games. .

Well, It goes like this:

The 60GB and 20GB models (the early ones, they are now discontinued) play all PS2 games.

The 80GB model plays PS2 games, but not quite as well as the first two (it has something like 80% compatibility, as opposed to near 100% in the earlier models).

The 40GB one doesn't play PS2 games, at all.

Note that ALL models will play Playstation1 games.

---

The game you are thinking about is called "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune". I've just started it, and its really good.

Other than that, there's Call of Duty 4, which has won lots of "Game of the Year" awards. There's alot of shooting and violence though.

Solachica

Yes the game is Drake's Fortune. Heavenly sword and Assasins 3 he's also playing.
He said he preordered Grand Theft Auto 5.
 gta was fun to watch with the music tht cud be changed while you were driving around etc.

He has the ps3 60G.

They real making profit on the wii in Trinidad....I think the wii in the UK is £179 with average of £35 per game.
If you buy one in the UK, do you have to pay duty on it when you get to Trini-land???

Are games for the PS3 in Trinidad cheap? Assassins Creed here is £45 ...and from what I been checking in the shops, thats the average price.

Anyone have Singstar?? Is that any good??

BW
02-25-2008, 02:04 PM
The cost here is pretty heavy for high tech stuff. Two major reasons: (1) the import duty on electronics is pretty high, so unless it's smuggled down, the price instantly rises by up to 50%, before you even add in shipping and other taxes (VAT is 15% here), and (2) there's a small market. Not many people are going to buy next-gen consoles here, so retailers feel the need to mark it up intensely to make it "worth their while" to carry the line. I would recommend buying it away, and sticking it in your suitcase if possible.

I doubt you would have to pay duty, unless you intend to sell it or maybe if it's beyond a certain monetary value (unsure about that).

-I've heard Heavenly Sword is a pretty good, but has some repetition and it's very short. For the $60, there are better games in the PS3 library (pick up Uncharted if you haven't already. I'm absolutely loving this game).

My bro have Asassins creed. He said he paid US$60 for it. He said most of his ps3 games cost $60.
He orders them online from amazon or he travels often so buys them.
If you bring in a ps3 in Tdad they wount charge duty. Can't remember the last time I heard someone say they got charged.
People bring in laptops etc and thts considered your personal stuff.

I have a Wii and we play Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Rayman Raving Rabbids, and a bunch of other games. I LOVE IT!!!

Traditional gameplay is a little hard (Metroid Prime: Corruption) but after a it you get used to it. I wouldn't trade it for anything!

The Wii is it for sure.
It has loads of multiplayer games and has even recently started getting a couple RPG games (my favourite). Shooters and racing as well.

XBox 360 and PS3 may look better, but for plain old fun, I have played all the systems and nothing beats the Wii. When I can play a video game with my mum (who has hated video games since Pong and Pac-Man right through to GTA 3 and Super Mario Sunshine) and she has a good time? That's the sign of a really good system.

She had so much fun, that she and pops actually put up money so that they could get their own Wii before they went back to Trinidad. So my family now owns 2 Wiis, one in Canada and one in Trinidad . They play the Raving Rabbids 1 and 2, Wii Sports and Wii Play. My brother, plays Smash Brothers and Mario Kart with me on the Wi Fi every weekend. Which actually has us keeping in touch more than ever. So the Wii has actually closed up the distance that we had.

The Wii is probably the best investment I've made in the past few years aside from going to university. Normally a statement like that about a game console would make me shudder, but I don't see it as a gaming console anymore. It's actually a family entertainment device.

Edit: I just read that over... I should become a spokesman for Nintendo, eh? Hahahaha

I am in Canada, but I primarily play online with Trinis.
I know 8 people in Trinidad with Wii and we play every weekend or two with little to no lag.
I would imagine, that it would be better if it was 2 people online playing IN Trinidad. But if that is the case, why you playing online when you could just take your Wiimote to their house or vice-versa.

A whole set of us also played PC games like Counter Strike and free MMORPGs (think World of Warcraft, but no monthly fees).

The answer is PS3 all the way! Why? I have been a loyal Playstation fan since trading my CUBE for a PS2 (2003). At that time Pro Evolution Soccer was exclusive to the system, FIFA no match for it. The Wii is the only Nintendo system I have not owned (no intentions). Though it looks like fun, I am into gore and graphics.

Must have game PS3, MGS4 - Guns of the Patriot.

I am on the verge of ordering a Wii, it should cost around $2500tt with Wii Sport included the no local warranty support issue with most electronics is the major restraint for me.

Is there anyone in tnt who has the resources to replace the br drive on a PS3?? There probably are people, but they usually dig out your eye. Repairs and modifications are usually stupidly expensive in Trinidad.
I remember in the early stages of the PS2 generation, my cousin wanted to get his console modded so he could play burnt games (oh noes! pirate!). It was almost the cost of a new PS2. So he hit the internet and did it himself :P .
Good luck in your search!

If you know someone away, get them to buy it for you with the warranty (with your money, obviously  ).
That way, if something goes wrong, you send it to them and they go fix you up. Worked for me and my brother (when his X Box 360 got the red ring of death he sent it up to me and I handled the scene).
Of course, that's only possible if you know someone away willing to do that for you.

The manufacturer warranty would still be valid with the local purchase, same situation with a foreign purchase if shipped down here there is no "local" provider of support I would have to ship it to support center (and back through my skybox) at my expense.

Got it today and enjoying it immensely btw
merry Christmas to me yay!!
